Made Up Memory:
In my office at Universal in 2008, I hear that some of the girls have blagged tickets to go see New Kids On The Block that night. This means nothing to me as I have absolutely no interest in them, and I return to writing emails about Taylor Swift.
It’s the Radio One Road Show at Plymouth’s Hoe, summer 1990. As always Simon Bloody Mayo is presenting. Uncle David has taken my brother and I, though I’m sure the fact that Kylie Minogue is playing may be at the root of my Uncle’s decision. Afterwards, he takes us to Our Price to buy us our first ever singles, on 7” vinyl of course. Richard buys Timmy Mallet’s ‘Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini’ whilst I bought New Kids On The Block’s ‘Tonight’.
18 years later in my office at Universal in 2008, I hear that some of the girls have blagged tickets to go see New Kids On The Block that night. This means the world to me, as they will forever be the artists behind the purchase of ‘My First Single’. I stop writing emails about Taylor Swift and blag some for myself. I take the only friend who I know to have as pathetic a taste in music as myself, Susannah Pearce, and we dance the night away. It’s great. This is the only photo I have, but it’s not very good.
